SCANS & TRANSLATION - INROCK #333 ! ♥

Now, this is the first time that I have my life, not being Tokio Hotel. (Bill)

Scans & Translation: THCN
It's an award for fans, right? It means that your fans are the best?
Bill & Tom:
Yes!
Bill: It's an award for fans! Our fans are from foreign countries (Outside America), still we won the award, it's cool!!
And, there's one more important thing. A few months ago, you guys had beaten of a lot of big artists and win the MTV O Music Award? It's great, can you talk about this?
Tom:
Yes. Now, we're about to compose our mind and stay in the studio, we were not interviewed often, we are surprised! Even in such period, fans vote for us.
Bill: We didn't expect to it!
Tom: We even didn't know that we were nominated, after knowing that, we just thought that "it's great, but this is O Award, we won't win it".
Bill: It's really unexpected. In the past, when we won Headliner (6: EMA in 2008), and many other awards, we didn't feel the sense of reality... These all are achieved by our fans, for us. We are really proud of our fans, they support us greatly. Now, we don't have tour, just have our production in the studio, but still we won the award, we are really happy! It's really cool!
It's great that you guys are safe!!
Bill & Tom:
Yeah..*laugh* There's such story.
You guys has shot another video?
Bill:
Yeah, shot in Cape Town that one. Don't watch the German version, I really don't like it!
Really?
Bill:
Yes, though it's part of our history, I don't think we had made a good video, so I'm not that like it. But it's our starting point.
You were so cute in that video! I have watched it for a few times.
Tom:
*laugh* You have watched the whole?
Bill: Yap, we had his video, then a few years later, we shot the English version in Cape Town. It's a love song!
Tom: We were on an helicopter in the English version, after the shoot of the video, the helicopter was broken down.
Bill: It seems that it can no longer be manned.
Tom: We didn't know this, and we got on it. The shot goes well, but it's broken down a few days later.
Bill: It's too old, that there's even no license saying that it can be manned.
*grin* By the way, your next single for radio is the great hit song "Monsoon". It's a new song here, in Japan. Can you tell us some stories about this song?
Bill:
Yes. This is one of our first recording song by Tokio Hotel. It's in our first album, our first single in Germany, and the start of everything, so it's an important song, full of our memories. It fulfill our dreams, fans love this song. And "Monsoon" is also the most viewed video... We have brought this song to many countries. We have lots of memories in this song. We have also made a really beautiful video! Of course, it's an old song now...
But, isn't it inconvenient to carry such big ring?
Bill:
No, I love accessories. I have lots of accessories, a crazy number of accessories. There are chains, rings and other accessories. I have lots of accessories in my closet, a few thousands of them.
'Cause we had asked from Tom that you bought lots of things there. *grin* (6: From InRock #326)
Bill:
Yap, that's my favourite place in Los Angeles.
From Melrose Avenue, right? (editor: Los Angeles' most fashionable street, with lots of secondhand clotheses store and characteristic fashion stores.)
Bill:
Yes, from Melrose Avenue! You know it.
I see. By the way, your ring is really marvelous! Can you introduce to us? (there are a few rings, they nearly hide Bill's finger. It seems that the rings have gimmicks)
Bill:
This one? I brought this from Los Angeles' secondhand clotheses store, it seems that it was originally an old watch.
You guys are all perfectionists. *grin*
Bill:
Yap, as we are perfectionists, we want to write music with high quality. In the recent music industry, there are many people treat quality as minor, we want some bands creating music of high quality.
Could you guys upload the first 20 seconds of one of the song on Internet?
Tom:
*grin* There are too many songs for free nowadays.
Okay...*grin*
Bill:
But if we are 100% satisfied with our work, we will share with our fans.
Tom: Yap, conversely, if we are not 100% satisfied with our work, we will absolutely not make it public.
Where do you guys get inspiration from for your songs recently?
Bill:
Tom and I get all the inspiration from our life. Now, this is the first time that I have my life, not being Tokio Hotel. We are always touring, and grew up in the eye of public, it might be the first time that we can live and keep our privacy. So we try to challenge everything that we couldn't do in the past, this way of life is new to us, not touring. So, now, we get our inspiration from whom we met and our life. And movie. We like watching movie.
Tom: Also, time is important. Having enough time inspires us a lot. We live with our own lifestyle, have few weeks doing nothing. I think is really great. Songs that we bring to our fans is certainly great.
Bill: The most important thing is that we don't have pressure. The date of release of our next album is not decided, to us, this is important. We are not a band that will release an album annually. We are kind of free. As we think that ideas come to our mind spontaneously, we may have to spend 2, 3 or 4 years for an album, so we don't know when will our new album be finished. We will spend as much time as we like on it, this is important.

If we are not 100% satisfied with our work, we will absolutely not make it public. (Tom)
You're right. So far, how many songs have you guys written?
Tom:
If you are talking about the number of songs, the number is enough for us to go to the studio. But we don't want this. We will keep on writing songs and write down our ideas, production keeps on...
Bill: We can't tell you exactly how many songs we have written. In our laptop, there are a lot of songs we wrote since 2000. We have taken some songs from there and made some modifications. It's difficult to say exactly how many songs we have written. Anyway, we have written many songs, a mountain of songs.
Tom: One day, inside this mountain, we will think that "Ok, we are ready!". At that time, there're songs that can be combined into an album.
Bill: There are some songs that I don't like after recording.
I see. So, you guys are working on your new album?
Bill & Tom:
Yes!
You guys are stars, there are many people admire your music and existence, right? Do you guys think that it's destiny.
Bill:
Yeah, it can only be destiny. We have talked about this in many interview, that we are saved by music, in many ways. We, not only immerse ourselves in our music, but also in many other music. When we are sad, we will go to party, we listen to different music according to the atmosphere. Also, we create our own music, we are inspired by a lot of stories, and write our songs, this is the way which can solve our problem best. Everything around us is our inspiration. For us, music is a therapy, it works in different way. We will be happy if we can play such role. Though we are amazed that fans value us, we are really happy that they need our band.
After the earthquake disaster, many Japanese start thinking about their lives and destinies. Do you have anything that you think that you must do in your life? What's in your mind when disaster comes?
Tom:
Yes, I think that when something like that happens, a great impact will be made on everyone, all over the world. It happens so quickly, just in an instant, you can actually feel the terror of Nature.
Bill: Life is really fragile... I'm really scared.
Tom: The earthquake has changed the life of people all over the world. We all reflect on our life. There're so many people being killed, people all feel heartbreaking, so people is affected, for no reason.
What will you guys do?
Bill:
If there's any chance, we will grasp it with joy. For this time's MTV, there're really a lot of artists gathered together to show their support. I think that's really great. The scene of many people holding together for the same purpose is nice.
Also, you guys will have a collaboration with Germany's football team player Kagawa (Borussia Dortmund's midfielder Shinji Kagawa), right?
Bill:
Yes, we met him a lot recently. Although he says "I'm not that familiar with football...", he's really a nice guy.
Your fans have also done something, right?
Bill:
Yes, in order to raise money for Japanese Red Cross Society, we have designed some buttons, and many fans bought these buttons. I'm really happy to see fans helping us.
It's graceful that you guys could go back safely.
Bill:
Yes, of course, but we really love this country, we like Tokyo the best, so we treat Tokyo's matter as our matter. As the earthquake is really shocking, we think that, we will do anything if they need us, we want to show our support to Japan! So we are really happy that we can raise money for Japanese Red Cross Society with MTV.
*laugh* Let's back to our subject. First, I would like to thank you guys for supporting victims in Tohoku and Fukushima. You guys have done a lot of work in helping them?
Bill:
Yes. When we heard of the earthquake, we were really shocked, since we just came back from Japan a few weeks before the earthquake.
Okay, but I just can't imagine that Bill has such side.
Bill:
*laugh* No, no, I am the same as everyone, I grow beard.
Tom: Even I am the twin brother, I am shocked! In the morning, when I saw this guy's face, I was just like "What's happening to this face!? This is not Bill!". I'm really openmouthed. *laugh*
Bill: *laugh* But the worst thing is that I'm bored by myself, so I always change my look.
Tom: Just go out with your natural beauty. *grin* Hey, do I look old?
Bill: You are just 21, so it's okay, isn't it?
Tom: Yes, it's okay. If I wear a beard, I look like 21, right? I'm no longer 16, 17 years old.
Don't say something like that, don't you care about your look and styling all the time?
Bill:
You're right, but I'm also human being, the same as everyone! *grin*
...well, what can I say... *grin*
Bill & Tom:
*laugh*
Tom: I'm as beautiful as usual, right *grin*? Well...I think that beard can hide my rough skin. Should I continue to expose my rough skin, as Bill does so, or should I grow a beard to cover it? I chose the later one.
Gustav: Even you do so, you are as beautiful as usual! *grin*
Tom: Right? *grins*
Bill: But, for Tom and I, it's not a big deal. I'm a bit lazy in the morning, I also grow beard, the same as everyone. If it is okay for me not to shave off my beard, of course, this way is always easier.
Tom: Gustav got chest hair! *laugh*
Bill: Yeah, chest hair! *laugh*

In the morning, when I saw Bill's face with beard, I was shocked, even I am the twin brother... (Tom)
*laugh* Right. But the look of you guys is part of the image of Tokio Hotel, to fans, it's a great deal.
Bill:
You're right. For us, it's completely normal, but for fans, it's big problem, it's strange.
By the way, Tom, what's happening to your beard? Fans are talking about it!
Tom:
You don't like it? *laugh*
Having mini live at Audi Forum Tokyo. From left to right: Georg Listing, Tom Kaulitz, Bill Kaulitz, Gustav Schäfer.

Tokio Hotel visit Japan for MTV's VIDEO AID JAPAN (hereafter referred to VMAJ). In our last issue, we published our close coverage and photos of Tokio Hotel, this time, we will publish their interview. We haven't met Kaulitz brothers for three months, they are still handsome, but Tom has wear a thin beard. Though they are twins, you can distinguish them from their image. Bill has shown up with beard in an award, it seems that fans are shocked. And, this time, apart from VMAJ, Tokio Hotel has also done mini live in Audi's Showroom. There're a lot of fans saying that they can't wait to enjoy a normal concert. "It doesn't matter how much money you can spend, only those, who have won the tickets, can attend this live. It's hard." said the fans. According to Germany's staff, Japan's promoter has contacted them for a few times, the band's also full of drive. It may not be a long way to fulfill fans' wish...?
Japan's summer is humid, right?
Bill:
Yap, it's really hard that you have to work under such weather. I don't care if we are in vacation, and relax for the whole day.
Tom: But it's better than cold!
Bill: Surely, it's better than winter.

SCANS - INROCK MAGAZINE - VOL.#329 - WITH TRANSLATION ! ♥

Scans: Unknown

"We are inspired by things like movies, our surroundings, everyday life or just waking up each morning."

Tokio Hotel show their concern for Japan. Representing the band are the brothers, Bill & Tom Kaulitz who kindly agreed to give a telephone interview from Los Angeles at short notice.

Q: How have you guys been?
Bill:
We've been writing songs in the studio, launching new projects, stuff like that.

Q: Are you writing new songs for the next album?
Tom:
It may or may not be for the next album, we're just writing songs at this stage. We still don't have a defined plan for releasing the new album and we don't know when we will release it. We're just being creative, writing music.

Q: What kind of songs are you writing? Are you singing it in English? Or are they being written in German?
Bill:
Right now, the songs are more or less written in English. I don't really know why myself. Just that it comes naturally to me. Besides, we're living in LA now so somehow things tend to get done in English. However we're not sure how we are eventually going to compile the album because we definitely will do songs in German. Since nothing has been decided and we're still at the experimental stage, we're just trying out different things while we put a demo of the songs together.

Q: Does your recording company and management not pressure you to complete the album by a certain date, or are they fairly relaxed about it?
Tom:
(laughs) They are not relaxed about it. But we're just staying cool and calm.
Bill: Yup, technically we don't have a deadline. I mean, for me, deadlines are like nightmares. In the creative line, you're trying very hard to produce good work but having to deal with a deadline just messes things up and make its even more complicated. What's more important is the freedom to enjoy doing what you love to do. Even if it seems like making an album is about completing the songs and making detailed preparations, its actually something which need sot come from inside of us. That is why right now we want to take it easy so that we can enjoy new challenges*.

*probably referring to the challenge of creating a new album

Q: So, what kind of challenges are you taking on, what sound are you trying to create?
Tom:
That's a surprise we're keeping for the release of the next album. In the first place, we are creating something different everyday. We listen to various kinds of music, and are inspired by different things so it really depends on the mood at each point in time. We're doing this everyday and everyday is a new day.
Bill: That's right. That's why we don't have a definitive sound for the next album.

Q: What kind of music inspires you?
Tom:
Its not just music actually. For now I really like the older works by Anthony Hamilton.
Bill: We are also inspired by movies and what's happening around us. Everyday life in a place like LA is very refreshing and therefore inspiring. Just being able to wake up each morning is also an inspiration. But I would say movies play a bigger part. We really like movies. We do go to the theatres or we watch one from our 1000+ dvd collection in our home theater.

Q: Any good films so far?
Bill:
The Town was good. I also think The Fighter was really good.

Q: About your life in LA, do you think you are somewhat able to live a more normal life? After all you're kind of "unknown" compared to Germany.
Bill:
Well, the both of us came to LA because we wanted some privacy in our lives. Up to this point we've not been able to enjoy much privacy, and it's a bit difficult to achieve that in Europe due to certain circumstances. Therefore, we were looking for a place where we can be free to be creative and at the same time enjoy some privacy. Up till now, we've been on tour and haven't had the time for any kind of life outside of Tokio Hotel. In that sense, LA is quite suitable because things are quite different. The *paparazzi don't know where we live so we've been able to enjoy some privacy and take things a bit easier.
Tom: It doesn't mean that we get to play and party every day. Most of the time, we're cooped up in the studio.
Bill: Yes, **we do need to be cautious at all times.

*Japanese word is unclear, so I'm guessing he's referring to paparazzi
**Bill is probably saying this to mean that if they were out and about and careless, their location would be found out. It took me a while to understand

Q: So is there some kind of everyday routine in your life?
Bill:
We're really bad when it comes to routines. That's why we do different things everyday. Other than checking our emails, we're currently busy with several of this year's projects. Its still in the planning phase and we havent got the details down yet. There are various things we'd like to do this year. The best part of our job is having the freedom to do what we want. We really hate routines because when we were young we had to go to school everyday like a routine, and we just hated it but we had no choice.

Q: Finally, do you have any words for the people in Japan?
Bill:
Of course. We've been checking the news everyday and staying up-to-date on the latest developments in Japan. I think it's not just us but the whole world knows what's going on and that has deeply moved everybody. I think everyone wants to help in one way or another. Especially in this day and age, I think it's important for the world to unite and help each other out. It's really wonderful to actually see the world giving a helping hand to Japan.
Tom: I was really shocked when I first heard about what happened in Japan. After all it is a country that is special to us. And we were so saddened by the news. So we've been looking out for information about whether the people are alright. On our official website we are selling a button set and the proceeds from the sales will be donated to Japan. I also think our fans would like to play a part in helping out.

Q: Is there a song you would like to dedicate to those who are still feeling down?
Bill:
Because everybody is different, it's quite hard to find one thing to say to everybody but if I were to choose from our songs, I would choose "By Your Side" and "Zoom Into Me". Both songs give the assurance that you're not alone and it's a message I would like to emphasize. After all, it makes you feel happy if you know that people around the world feel for you.

INROCK MAGAZINE - VOL.#328 - JAPAN ! ♥

What exactly was [your] impression of [your] first visit to Japan? Or did [you] discover anything new?
Bill: Well, [I] was really moved. It was really wonderful, the streets and also the people, just about everything was wonderful, even though [we] went home, [I'm] always talking about it. Because last time was December, only one month has passed, so to come back like this again, [I'm] really really happy. Because I thought, I want to go again, I want to go, I just can't wait, so [I'm] really happy.

But last time the schedule was packed, as far as I know, there was no free time!
Tom: This time it is even more packed (laughs).
Bill: That's right. Someday [I ] want to try to take a vacation here, to really explore the city, and to make an opportunity to enjoy [it]. But it's okay! The people here are really attractive...
Tom: Because [we're] happy to be able to work here.
Bill: There's nothing but great fans here, and because everyone is just really nice.

Finally [they] have come to Tokyo and because up until now [their] goals have been achieved, [they] need time to think about what to do next. [Translator's note: This is the part that's in larger, bold text near the bottom]
Japanese people are really hardworking, so you guys have that in common, right?
Bill: Yes, that's right, [we have] that in common!

Even though this time [you guys] have a really busy schedule, it's great how you follow without complaining!
Bill: That's right...
Tom: But complains behind the scenes (laughs)
Bill: Well, it's already been 6 years like this, because we have always been doing [this], [we have] become used to it. It is our desire to succeed like this and to spread our music to everyone.
Tom: This time, there are plans to appear on many TV programs, so [we] really look forward to it. [We] will appear [on TV] tomorrow!

Tomorrow, must get up early and watch!
Tom: Because it's really early in the morning, isnt it. If I remember correctly, because [we] must get up around 4AM, it's quite hard for us.
Bill: I get up at 3AM. Also have to have rehearsals, put on makeup, and appearance also has to be perfect. To begin with, also have to put in time to go to the place. [I'm] really happy to be able to perform, but [I'm] not good at morning shows. Because by nature, I'm the type that sleeps long hours. But, well, I will try my best.

So, between last time to now, what have [you guys] been doing?
Bill: Been going to the studio and writing new music [and such]. [We] have yet been able to discuss the rest, but going to the studio with other artists and making new music, or stuff like that. Also talked about [this] last time, but because we really want to concentrate on Japan this year, [we] have been preparing and stuff, as for the rest, there is a little free time, so for the next album, [we're] doing creative activities, preparing to make new things, and such. Because in the past 6 years, [we] have always been making albums and always touring, new inspiration is necessary.
Tom: Especially because [we] did many new things in our last album. We have completely done the European Tour we wanted to do...[Translator's note: Not 100% certain on this particular sentence...]
Bill: And finally [we] came to Japan, [we] have achieved our goals up to now. So for the band, it's necessary to look for new inspiration in [ourselves] and have time to think about what [we] want to do for the next album. Because life itself becomes a good inspiration, now [I ] feel that I spend every day carefully.

For your new project, somehow or another, [I ] understand that [you] can't talk about it specifically yet.
Bill: [You] understand? Really (laughs)?

Probably (laughs). This is completely different, but what do [you] hope for this project?
Bill: It's certainly completey different but because [I] have never sung outside of this band, [I ] thought of trying it. Because for me, this is has become my first experience. Because the band is in the middle of searching for new inspiration, [I] think it might be good to also try experimenting with something new. I wanted to see what it's like to try and work together with completely different people who have completely different styles, to be inspired, and to work with other artists. I am looking forward to anything.

Is that for your new album or is it for "another" new album? [Translator's note: Not 100% positive about how accurate my translation for this question is, so please take with a grain of salt...]
Bill: That is...oops, can't talk [about it] yet (laughs).
(laughs) [For] use in movies and such...?
Bill: [We] haven't talked about it yet (laughs). Because other artists are also involved. Anyways, it won't be included in our next album.

Is that so? So going to the studios, are there any plans for the conceptual work?
Tom: Maybe. Today [we] have yet to say how every day is spent, [we] write songs, think about various [things] while wandering in the studio, and doing creative things. [We] do not necessarily have a clear concept for the direction of the next album going into the studio, just lounge in the studio and enjoy the music. [We] have yet to decide anything.

INROCK #327 - JAPAN ! ♥

Translation:

Interview with Tokio Hotel.
I want to try something new except music with Tom.

This month, Adimission free (page 84-85) published the articles written by readers who were interviewed with Tokio Hotel, coz it's initial to look into from fans' view. Overwhelmed by Bill, among those German all the people were so high. Beyond that, Bill and Tom kept talking. It was very cheerful.

Everyone was looking forward to your arrival.
Tokio Hotel:
So were we.
Bill: The trip to Japan has been our dream for a long time. We are really grateful for coming to Japan finally and extremely excited. It was quite good to come here.

I guess you guys had the same answers when you were asked by South American reporters. (Laugh)
Bill:
Yeah! We have told people that some day we would go to Japan for many times. What is more, our band name is "Tokio Hotel", so we want to go to Japan as soon as possible.
Tom: But when the day came, it was beyond imagines, because Tokyo was certainly too far away.
Georg: When we gave a name to our band, we wanted to figure something spectacular out. It seems that it should be a place that we can not even see and reach in the dream. And finally we decided to name it "Tokio Hotel". But we finally got to Tokyo. (Laugh)

Well, all the fans want to know more about you guys in limited times. Firstly, Tom, you said making an album was a time-consuming job when you received our interviews last time. So the next album in 2011 must be not easy. Do you think the same way right now?
Tom:
Sure.

Why is it?
Tom:
Actually we should have made the new song in the recoding studio at this moment, but we decided to come to Japan, actually it is not in our plan. Next time we hope we can prepare well.

Seriously? We can believe you, can't we? (Laugh)
Tom:
Of course! But we have other plans in 2011 to look forward to. After all these, we can finally come back to the studio to continue writing songs. So we don't know when the next album will be released, either. It's not that we don't like traveling, but it seems that we don't have enough time to compose in 2011.
Bill: That's because we want to make some albums of high quality. We really want to show everyone the best part of what we create in daily time, so it is necessary to stay at the studio for a long time. As we compose, we have to discuss which way is better, which sound is better and so on.
Tom: Yeah, we have been on tours this year. Once we get back to the studio, we will think about what to do next, accumulating our thoughts and collecting all kinds of inspiration. All of these are very time-consuming.
Bill: So we are not sure when we can release the next album. May be next year or the year after next. But we will immediately inform you if there is any sign. (Laugh)

How long do you spend in making a new album usually?
Tom:
It all depends. It always depends on how many songs we record. It's not the problem we need to think about. Sometimes we thing it's okay after we record 18 songs, while we may not be satisfied and add something else even after we record 50 songs. Therefore it lies on our mood of that moment. If we gave you a deadline, it would be an assumption.

Oh, I see. I went to Germany and Paris the other day. I know how popular you are in Europe. You are definitely most popular.
Tokio Hotel:
Yeah, it is the same in Paris.

In the first time when we interviewed Bill and Tom by phone, both of them were very friendly and easy to talk. I was so shocked. So no matter how popular you are, you are still natural and low profile. Is it your principle?
Bill:
Yes, it's most important for us. We founded this band naturally and we are also good friends. We have been together for almost 10 years. During this period of time, we have performed in front of only 5 audiences. Initially we never thought about success when we sung in a small club. But now our dreams came true and I was so proud.
Tom: So we know the two sides of the business work, because we know not only the success but the feeling when we stood in front of 5 people as well. In that small club, no one listened to us, not mentioning an interview. We also know how hard to be the top one. And it is hard to perform facing 500,000 people under the Eiffel Tower, too. Because we have experienced success and failure, we are so grateful today. Maybe we are blessed.

Is it because you are Christian?
Bill:
It could be one reason.

We are going to change the topic. After you came here, what do you think of Tokyo? Is it the same as what you imagined or not?
Bill:
I can't imagine there are so many fans here waiting for us.
Tokio Hotel: Yeah, yeah!
Bill: I thought no one would be there and no one knew us. But after we got off the plane, many fans were waiting and sent us lots of presents. I was so happy. Everyone welcomed us friendly and zealously.

You have been used to this scene, right?
Tom:
Other countries are the same, but it was the first time in Japan. So I thought maybe no one knew us at all and we had to introduce ourselves as first. I was very glad to see so many fans in Japan.

Fan in Europe must be much more than Japanese fans, but everyone here is passionate to you guys. Oh, by the way, Bill and Tom, you said you are both perfectionist. Then you cause troubles to others sometime, right? (Laugh) when did you start to pursue for perfection?
Bill:
I guess it started long time ago.
Tom: Something in my body began to control me long time ago, I think.
Bill: I say to myself: "relax, relax the shoulders." But I can not. No matter what I do, I want it to be perfect. I want to make everything perfect. If there was something imperfect, it would hang around me. It's like a disease. I know sometime I cause some troubles to someone else, but I just think of it. I guess others can not be happy. (Laugh)

See? Gustav and Georg are sneering. (Laugh)
Bill:
Yes, Tom and I are exactly the same on this point. So when we are together, it's too troublesome for others. I don't even know when it began. Anyway I have been like this long before.

Do you inherit this from your parents?
Bill:
Maybe. We are close to our mother and never get any pressure from her. We have grown up freely since childhood. Mum relies on us very much. She does everything according to our likes and dislikes, so we talk closely and she has supported us all the time. Mum has never forced us to do anything including study. She trusts us and says to us: "you do things according to your own ideas. I believe you." Our relationship is very good, so it's hard to say if it is genetic.

I hear of that you don't hire any stylist because of perfectionism. Is that true?
Tom and Bill:
Yes.
Bill: I cannot believe him. The stylist may ask us to wear some clotheses we don't like. I always feel uneasy. I prefer to choose and buy clotheses by myself.
Tom: I don't believe others, either. I want to control everything including PV, CD, total effect, stages, shows and of course music. It can be regarded as freak. But about all of this, we have own thoughts and we believe that we can do much better that anyone else.
Tokio Hotel: (laugh)
Tom: I think we will cause troubles to others. In a word, we hope to handle this by ourselves. I want to be engaged in CD with the text of lyrics or the "Darkside of the Sun" Japanese edition.

And what do you do indeed? Do you guys go shopping?
Bill:
It's hard. Especially in Europe it's not okay. But there are several stores that we are familiar with. And in some particular time they are open for us specially. At that time, we can go there and take our time. Besides this, we always buy things online.
(Tom told us that Bill often went to a store called Melrose Avenue in LA.)

Shopping online? Did you buy all of these accessories you wear today online?
Bill:
Sure! There are some websites where you can buy such kind of things. Sometimes in certain countries we can go out for shopping with caps and sun glasses without worrying. And sometimes designers give me some clotheses.

It sounds good. In our previous interviews, you said your apartment was not like a retail shop but a clothing shop.
Georg:
They have more various clothes than stores. It's more like a warehouse.
Tom: I have lots of clothes, but Bill has more than mine. The amount of our clothes is big.
Bill: I'm used to put all my clothes away instead of throwing them. Talking about clothes, I am...
Georg: Sluttery.
Bill: Yes, I'm like this for clothes. I like every one very much, even though the old clothes are still one part of my history and they have different kinds of memories. This coat is about this and that jacket is about that, something like this.
Tom: The clothes we wore when we were in the first PV shooting are still in the cabinet.

Isn't good to donate them to charity organization?
Tom:
We have done this before. But just like what we said, every one has its meaning and memory. We don't want to give them up.

I heard of that you dragged 10 or 12 suitcases on tours. Is it true? (7 suitcases for Japan)
Bill:
Yeah, it seems like we carried more. (Laugh) Tours are so long time ago that I can not remember clearly.
Tom: The people who are responsible for carrying the luggage are very tired, I think. It's really good to let others help. (Laugh)
Bill: We took everything we need, because we went on a 3-month tour.

Your band was founded 10 years ago. It has been 10 years. Comparing to the very beginning, did you change your attitude to music?
Bill:
I think we grew up actually. All of us grew up and became adults gradually. Surely everyone changed. We got to adapt ourselves on long time tours, so as a musician we grew up as well, which has been natural. We don’t have any thought that we begin to do like this from now on! Just let it be.

How about the subject you composed? Do you change the subject as you grow up?
Bill:
The subjects are changed. I get inspiration from many materials such as fashion, people around, movies and so on. Especially my favorite movies, so the last album was inspired by a science fiction movie.

Specifically speaking, which movie is it?
Tom & Bill:
It's hard to say.
Tom: Because there are so many movies.
Bill: We like too many good movies.

Please pick some among these movies.
Bill:
For example, "2012" is good. And another one, what is the name? Sorry, I forget.
Tokio Hotel: "District 9".
Bill: Yeah, that one is very good. And the new one named "Tron:Legacy" is very commercial. I really want to watch. And there are some other movies that we just know the German name, but English name. I like "The Notebook" and "Labyrinth" acted by David Bowie. They are old movies, but I like them very much. "Inception" is really wonderful.

That one is hard to understand, right? By the way, the show held several weeks ago in South America was full of future sense, especially the clotheses. When you set the stage, was the idea based on your own thoughts?
Tom:
Yeah! For the 3-month tour in Europe, we prepared for half a year. All the members thought over together in the rehearsal room, like the stage, the clotheses and the whole stage. It took us lots of time and energy for the preparation. We preformed a part of the whole. After all it's impossible to finish all. On the European tour, we used 15 trucks to carry all the stuff, but only plane was available in South America. And the plane had its weight limit. So we couldn't take all the stuff. Although it couldn't be the exactly same, we tried our best.

I see. The last question is sort of a joke. Tom and Bill, do you sleep in one bed?
Tom:
Nope.

In the previous interview, you said you two did everything together and sometimes you sleep together.
Bill:
We were seeing a movie together, but tired at the same time, so...
Tom: It's true. We are together everyday, almost 365 days and 24 hours. We may separate from each other only when we sleep in own beds. (Laugh) Except sleep, we are together.

Oh, I know. (Laugh) well, what is your goal for 2011?
Bill:
Go back to our studio and create new songs.

Are you going back to Hamburg or LA?
Bill:
We should go back to both of them. Sometimes we want to stay in US, and sometimes we want to stay in Germany. There are many specific plans that are proceeding secretly. But we can not tell you. Tom and I also want to try something else but music. We have not decided, but we will tell you if we decide. The next year should be mainly based on composition.

Did Bill do something relating to fashion? I heard of that you voiced a character in a movie.
Bill:
Yeah, I voiced the character of Arthur on "Arthur et les Minimoys" German version.

How about others? What do you do except music?
Bill:
They don't have this talent. (Laugh)

Oh! Bill! Come on!
Gustav:
I might be the next Stallone in 10 years. And I might voice a character on "Arthur rimbaud 20". (Laugh)
Tom: Although I have never done this before, it's a hard job. (Laugh) Not easy, right?
Bill: It took a long time. That is the achievement I got after I had stayed in studio for several hours.
Tom: Bill is also painstaking as a singer. We are not good at voiceing and making music at the same time, because I think we are not suitable.

How about Georg?
Georg:
I haven't got any good proposal. I don't know what is it going to be?

OK! Thank you very much!

INROCK MAGAZINE #326 - JAPAN ! ♥

Translation:

Tokio Hotel in TokyoThe aura of Tokio Hotel is too dazzling that it's hard to get close.
Tokio Hotel in Omotesando
Finally Tokio Hotel has arrived in Japan! Although they are super star in Europe, it is their first time to come to Japan. On the first day in Japan, with the support of German embassy Tokio Hotel became to be a goodwill ambassador, in order to commemorate the 150th anniversary of restored diplomatic relation between Germany and Japan and let Japanese know more about German culture. Of course, they were promoting themselves as well. The people in charge of schedule set a devilish tight schedule for them, and he said: "This band wants to have a successful start in Japan. I think there will be no doubt." So four members in the band began to make up since 9 o'clock, no complain at all for 12 hours, they kept working.

From the first day, Dec. 12th, to the interviews with In Rock, their idle time was almost zero. The manager said: "After all the interviews, all the stores had closed. So TH was looking forward to the interview in Harajuku. Although it's raining, we will be there definitely. But they may go shopping until next Japan Trip." The band was really in a high mood to go promotion.

Could such a band fulfill their keen wish? It began raining since the early morning. Fortunately, it stopped till the shooting and became cloudy. Finally we could go out.
In the hotel lobby, we met two fans that came from France. They followed TH all the way more than ever. At last, 8 people including me, set out in two Benzs with smoke-glass that the band prepared. In Europe Audi sponsors TH, so no matter where they go they have Audi. But Japan is not on the list, so they drive Benzs in Japan. However, the Benz matched up with Bill's luxurious temperament well.

For 5 days 4 nights trip, Bill and Tom took 7 suitcases filled with clotheses. Bill changed his cloth depending on each event. The day before, Bill wore some military look clotheses, with a Grenade type hairstyle. Is the theme for today's interview leisure lady? Bill never wears fur clothing, because he wants to support PETA. He preferred to wear fake fur clothing with good quality. Though Bill had to change poses for the cameras, he smiled a lot because he was together with his members. His smile could be laugh sometimes. Comparing to his serious face for the cameras, at this moment, his eased face was very cute.
Tokio Hotel in Harajuku
We got off the car in front of Louis Vitton in Harajuku and planned to go to Meiji shrine through the Takesita channel. But we didn't succeed in 3 minutes, until all the people came into a personalized shop named Santa Monica. So was the stylist. Within 20 minutes, Bill tried on and bought two shirt and stadium jumper. He paid 32000 yen with his Platinum Card (Notes: the membership fee of this card was not public, but it should be tens of thousands of yen.). Tom didn't buy anything and came out early, saying: "Bill is always like this." with a dry smile. Both of them would enter stores like ロスジャ、メルローズ アウェニュー together. "I would like to go to Shibuya more than here, the Shibuya crossing!" The manager heard about this and caught a glimpse of his watch. We probably didn't have time to go to Shibuya due to their home returning on 16th. But as long as they wanted to go, we decided to shorten the lunch time and go to Shibuya through Takesita channel. These four people standing in the crossing were busy with taking photos. We could even see their wrought-up expression on their faces. Then a sudden scream reached their ears, because they were recognized by their fans. Bill and Tom have been eager to going to Shibuya for a long time, but this time they might...? How lucky the fans were! Even so, the band noticed it was a little bit late for the schedule. So they got on the Benz with smoke-glass immediately. However, the fans were still every excited. After all, fans were most precious!
Zeal!!!
Reports from chief director K Sir!
Tokio Hotel's soul devoted Japan Trip
Preface:I didn't have too much to report before TH came over. More than two years after they planned to come to Japan last time, the live performance has not been confirmed yet. This event was a formal debut for TH in a special country. Three years ago, they cancelled their first Japan Trip, which made their fans cry regrettably and sadly. So I felt so stressful because the trip for this time was full of TH and fans' enthusiasm. The album has not been released yet, so all the people put their hands up to deliver their wishes and hoped to buy the album as soon as possible. Taking this opportunity, I would like to thank TH and fans sincerely.
Dec. 12th Sunny
Tokio Hotel arrived at Narita airport 11 AM. Gustav and Georg arrived early. Almost 30 fans were waiting for them. I bought some drinking for the band members and staff and stood in a slightly far place. I made friends with the fans waiting there, so I also became very nervous. The flight arrived on time. Finally as these two people pushed the carts, they showed up in the crowd. The exclusive secretary followed them closely and broke a path for them to make sure they could get on the prepared car. Gustav was called "little G" by his fans, even at the airport they were not shy to call him in a lovely voice.
After checking the schedule in hotel, I came to Narita airport again to welcome the soul leader - Bill and Tom, the identical twin brothers. The flight from LA was supposed to arrive at 6 PM, fans have gathered at the airport before 5 PM. The amount of the fans was several times more than that of early morning. The long-waited fans became nervous and calm down after they knew Bill and Tom have already arrived 30 minutes early. The secretary of the twin brothers entered the passageway to check their status. Fans standing near the exit started to scream one by one. It took three years for TH to come to Japan. Bill and Tom walked out from the exit and signed their names with their signature pens. All the fans nearly lost their rationality and gathered at the end of the guard bar. Their secretary broke a path for them and I helped to keep order at the very beginning. But we could not move forward at all. Bill and Tom tried their best to be kind to their fans without annoyed looking on their faces. The fans waiting at the parking lot sung "Durch den Monsun" together. At that moment, Bill and Tom smiled happily. As Bill waved his hands, he got on the car. So did Tom. The touching scene just now was incredibly fervent, which must build some unforgettable memories in fans' mind, I think. (By the way, the cars were sponsored by Mercedes-Benz Germany.) Later on, the band members and the staff went to the hotel and had a rest.
Dec. 13th Rainy
The promotion began from 11 AM to 8.30 PM. Lunch time was about one hour and a half, so they could have a wonderful lunch. The staff got to the hotel room one hour early to prepare, in order to make sure everything was alright during the interview. They prepared all kinds of food, such as water, cola (original, low calorie), red bull, coffee and chocolate cake (not Brownie, but almond chocolate cake). All of food was taken from abroad. The following interviews began as schedule. The band members needed to prepare makeup and clothing two hours early before the first interview, so they had to get up early. After a long interview, TH went to the party that Universal Music held in a Japanese food restaurant in Nishi-Azabu. The vegetarian food had been ordered in advance, so the party was going well. We prepared the fork and knife for Bill in case he could not use chopsticks well to pick up potatoes. Gustav and Georg were very happy to eat fried chicken and beef barbecue. The food looked tasty. The most surprising thing is that Bill and Tom ate some fried shrimps. Finally we knew that they sometimes ate some crustacean food. It was quite lucky to see this with my eyes. Although the party time was short, I guessed all the staff and the band members got much closer. At last, the young staff paid the bill and the band had a very satisfied diner. The party was over.
Dec. 14th Rainy to cloudy
All the band members (or Bill only) got up early to get prepared. The band members entered the interview room at 11.45 AM. When we met Bill, we really wanted to say to Bill: "Bill, you are so early!" and he wore gorgeous clothing. The first interviewer was NHK education (in German), but it seemed that they didn't have many questions. Then TH went to Omotesando in two Benzs and service wagon to receive the interview with In Rock! I felt thrilled watching Bill walk leisurely in Omotesando. All the band members wanted to go to fashion center and have a look, so they couldn't help it. We got off the cars in front of Louis Vittion. Some passengers saw the unusual scene as well. (Please refer to the details about interview in Harajuku above.) After the interview, TH got back to the hotel and had lunch. Their lunch was pasta with tomato sauce.
At 4 PM, the rest part of promotion got started. There were three radio interviews, five interviews including TV, magazines and music magazines. The end time for these interviews was 8.35 PM. Each member showed up in interview room with smiles, no tired look at all. The manager who took charge of the trip asked us to find some skating rinks. He probably heard something about what TH wanted to in Tokyo from someone else. Though we asked the hotel staff to help us, we didn't have much time. Finally we did not take TH to a skating rink, but we promised that next time we must go there.
Dec. 15th Sunny
Today TH will have their show case in Japan. Tokio Hotel refused some interviews, because they wanted to focus on the show case.
TH finished the interview in the company just after 12 o'clock. They were a little bit late, but it was all for meeting with In Rock selected fans. Then they went to the Akasaka Blitz where the show case was held. After rehearsal, they had a late lunch at 4 PM, including pizza, pasta, ordinary vegetable sushi (prepared for Bill and Tom). They all ate their favorite food before the show case. Gustav looked like that he loved pizza very much. Till one hour before the show case started, the door of Gustav and Georg's room was open all the time, just having a look, we found that they were doing the hair brushing. And then we understood that on the stage their fresh hair was done like this. In the end, the show case was over. Although the show case was a small one, they absolutely demonstrated their talent for piano. In the show case, they played 9 songs for the audiences. The clotheses Bill wore in the performance were sponsored by Italian brand - Dsquared2 (The brand was created by two Canadian twin designers). It was said that TH did not take their LED equipments this time, because the equipments were too heavy. But they promised that they would play them next time for Japanese fans. Our company gave TH Getas as presents. They said they had never received presents like this, they were very happy. TH did not go out the last night. As usual, they went back to the hotel and got ready to leave the next day. Accidentally some fans found the place where TH lived in Japan and they came over. Some of them wanted to give them presents, some of them wanted to take photos with them. However, TH did not feel annoyed about this sudden event. In the contrast, they treated them kindly and claimed that their fans were the most fabulous in the whole world.
Dec. 16th Sunny
As most of fans knew, Bill and Tom's second home is in LA. Because in Europe there were some crazy fans like stalkers, they could not live a normal life. But Gustav and Georg would go back to Germany.
Postscript:As the people in charge of TH's project, many people wanted to meet TH or many people wanted to watch their performance, they all asked me for help. I made projects for such a band, so sometimes I was afraid I could not do it well. But in fact the project has just begun. From now on, I wanted to make many good projects to let fans know how attractive Tokio Hotel is and let the people unfamiliar with Tokio Hotel get to know more about them. Tokio Hotel's project was "we have just begun"! Hey everybody, we have just begun!
Tokio Hotel's show case in Akasaka Blitz - Live reports
Reporter: YUKO KATO

"Tokio Hotel will demonstrate their real value in the live performance.", the editorial staff heard from someone. And then they went to the site with hope. As for our magazine's invitation, Tokio Hotel got to the top one in nearly 10 years. We came to our seats among the audiences. Someone said: "Tokio Hotel is not the type that performs in such a place, but they will put on a show to make new history.". They were exactly right. It was said that almost 80000 audiences attended the show in Mexico. Gustav, Georg and Tom came out 10 minutes later than schedule. Suddenly a guy shouted to Gustav, what the hell is that?! Later on Bill in dazzling cloth showed up. He was so gorgeous, but the shape of his ass and his face was unexpectedly diminutive, just like a lady. The costume was all black and sparkling accessories hung from head to foot. After Bill sung "Noise", he took off his tops while he wore a simple T-shirt inside. Then his style was completely changed. Their songs were much more powerful than we imagined before, and the rhythm was also strong. Gustav and Georg gave lots of support to Bill and Tom who appealed the audiences. The balance was good. Like his gorgeous appearance, Bill's voice was also very attractive. This kind of way of singing was too sweet in Rock music, which was exactly the feature of Tokio Hotel. The impact was obviously huge. Looking at Bill's slim figure, all the audiences were lighted up. However, the most impressive one was Tom. He wore a knitted cap, playing his guitar. The audiences were so excited and crazy about Tom like this. The Rock music was never beautiful like this before in my mind. The show case was proceeding for about one hour. Tokio Hotel played "Durch den Monsun" again, which was most popular and gained lots of awards. Bill also put much effort into it. According to audience's enthusiasm, we can predict that Tokio Hotel’s future must be bright and nice.

INROCK MAGAZINE #385 - JAPAN ! ♥

Translation:
TOKIO HOTEL - Exclusive Photographs from Hamburg.
TOKIO HOTEL's interview before they come to Japan.
"On the stage, I hope we can follow the things that can really stimulate ourselves from the deep hearts."

Interview with Bill Kaulitz.
Interviewer: YUKO KATO
Photos by: P.G.BRUNELLI/INROCK
TH sparked quite a stir among fans. TH accepted the interview from magazine photographer in Hamburg when they were busy with preparing for the South American tour's rehearsal. Their latest on-site interview and photos are released for everyone right away. In fact, we had interviews with Bill and Tom before. It was published on Vol. 13 INROCK★POP! Please pay attention!
Hello, Bill, I'm very glad to talk to you. It is quite excited because it is the first time to talk with you guys. Can you hear me?
Bill:
Yeah.

Ok, what is your schedule for today?
Bill:
I got up very early this morning (editor's note: Berlin time, 12 o'clock), I'm a little bit sleepy right now. Actually if I don't have enough sleep, I can not do anything well. I'm that kind of person, but it doesn't matter! We are doing the rehearsal for the South American tour in Hamburg's rehearsal room.

Wow!!!
Bill:
Yeah, all the band members are doing the rehearsal.

Well, can you tell me some details about the South American tour? Such as theme, setting or anything is ok.
Bill:
It's been almost one year since we began to go on tour. For the new album- Humanoid, we began to go on tour from April in Europe. We have been to many countries. We also performed on Asian MTV awarding ceremony. [Maybe meaning EMA, editor got it wrong] And we had good performances in Singapore and Malaysia. With this new album, we have done a lot of touring for a good while. Finally we made South America as the ending. We were really happy that we had our wish fulfilled, because we always wanted to do so. The first tour is in November, I guess. We are looking forward to it. All the settings were carried from Europe, so the scenery was exactly the same with Europe. The theme of the tours was still "Welcome to Humanoid City". It was the first time we met fans in South America which was so great. And every one in our band had our own solo performance. It was really awesome and we were very nervous.

"We go on a tour round the world as a normal band instead of being made or produced, so we are so lucky."
It's unfortunate that I haven't watched your show yet. What do you guys think of your own show? Is it conceptual or dramatic? Or is it a rock show?
Bill:
Just as you said, the theme of the tour is "Welcome to Humanoid City". In a word, we got the inspiration from the album of "Humanoid", so we prepared several sets of cloths for the show. I changed my clothes 5 times as well. In the conception of creating our own city, we made "Humanoid City" as the theme. This was pretty cool. This time we explored some creative adventures and experienced many new things too. All the members in our band played keyboard or piano or different kinds of instruments. So it was a new experience for everyone. It was a fresh and exciting show, although it was based on the album of Humanoid.

You must spend a lot of money, after all your show was not over after your performance.
Bill:
Yes, the more we spent the more success we got. We hoped we can give all the fans a real show. The music was connected with everything. So we wanted to have perfect costumes, perfect stage. Everything must be matched perfectly. My birth sign is Virgo. In all sense, I am a completist. To let all the fans enjoy the show as much as you like, even as to forget to leave, we made lots of efforts. We hoped everything was perfect.

When you are on the stage, your characteristic is the same with yours in daily life or not?
Bill:
I think the most important point is to reveal myself naturally on the stage. I don't want to give you an impression that I tried to act like some one else or I am assigned to be another person. In the creation stage, I hope we can follow the things that can really stimulate ourselves from the deep hearts. As a band, we have been together for almost 10 years. We have got lots of stage experiences, so we can express ourselves naturally on the stage. It's very important to contact with fans, which is related to the album. So we don't think we are playing some roles. As for me, what I pursued is to try new things and make the show fresh and new.

Where did you get the inspiration of changing the way you perform? Movies? Music? Or books?
Bill:
Sometimes I can get inspired on the trip. There are many ideas. To write them down I always carry notebooks and pens with me on the walk or trip. Sometimes I got some inspiration from fans all over the world. And sometime I got inspired by others' PV. The last way is to listen to our own songs. I had lots of new ideas as I listened to our own music. The way to make PV or design the cover always came into my mind when I was doing the recording in the studio. What inspired me on the album of Humanoid are the things that we don't have on the earth. The cosmos, the aliens and science fiction - unknown things are all the background of this album. We wanted to put all these elements on the stage. It was very difficult to figure out what we exactly want to do and how to do it and finally make a conclusion. Comparing to other albums, this album is full of electronic sounds, which sounds a little different. All the members tried different kinds of instruments. It was also a good idea on stage or external looking.

As you mentioned just now, the album of Humanoid is different from other albums. This new album is more refined. And you guys paid more attention to melody. It's conceptual. The previous albums impressed me as a rock music album.
Bill:
Yeah. But we didn't plan to make this kind of album at the beginning. We didn't have any conceptual thoughts. We figured out involuntarily after we got into the studio. We gathered in the studio. I combined all the themes and ideas in my mind gradually, I wrote and composed the songs. The title of the album was the same, so all of this was not we planned in advance. I didn't think anything like this at the beginning of writing. After I finished writing and producing, I began to think about the title, art designing, stage and so on. As last, I summarized all the ideas and made a complete album. This album was definitely different from the previous albums, but it's what we wanted. We expected something different. Because we took this album seriously, we spent a lot of time in the studio. I don't like to make a deadline or something and then I do my job according to the schedule under a big pressure. Usually the record company released a new album and then talks to us about next one. But it's very important that we have enough time to relax, and we gather in the studio. So we went to many countries and saw many streets for this album. We even went to LA, Miami and Hamburg. We met all kinds of people in cities all over the world and worked with many producers which really helped us find inspiration a lot. It was very cool. This was also a new experience. Just because we spent lots of time and energy, we can figure out how to make a good song.

Oh, I got it. Bill, you are a super star like God in music world. And do you know why so many people are obsessed with you? What do you think? Is there anything that people understands you?
Bill:
I don't know. Just because I don't know, so I can express myself naturally on the stage with no purpose. I don't define myself as any particular person. I am not gonna tell fans that next time which type I will be or what I will look like. What presents in front of you is exactly who I am. When I was a little boy, I put on make up and dyed my hair. That was me. Now in our band I still do what I want. It's very important for us that we are true to ourselves. Georg and Gustav are totally different from me, maybe. Nowadays there are quite few bands like us. "We go on a tour round the world as a normal band instead of being made or produced, so we are so lucky." There are so many German bands like us, I appreciate it a lot. Just enjoy it. We don't have any secret. Cause we dont even know what we will be, we become sort of super star by accident. If there are any bands like us, I believe I must be obsessed with them as well. (Laugh) To be honest, I was really touched as we went to so many countries. When we were in Asia early this year, everyone sang with us together. I was really happy. It was pretty cool for me as an artist at that moment. I was excited to see that kind of scenery. And finally we can go to Japan soon, so I cannot wait any more.

"We were born in a small town. There were many things that we didn't like."
We can not wait either. Your brother and you look like exactly the same. But in our previous interview, it was reported that your characteristics are totally different. Tom also said you two are like the two sides of the coin. Is that true?
Bill:
Yes, you are right. I cannot imagine how I can live without Tom. We are together all the time no matter what we do. I feel we are like one single person. Although we are different on carachteristic, style and ideas, we are perfect when we are together. Because we do every thing together, I cannot imagine what kind of life I can lead by myself. We founded this band together and we went to school together, till now we never separated from one another. The maximum time we separated is no more than 7 days, so actually we are almost together every day. It’s hard to say, it's something that only identical twin brothers can understand. We have some kind of connection like a sixth sense. Even though we are not together, we know what is in the other's mind. It's unbelievable. Yeah, I know it sounds crazy, but I guess this is what identical twin brothers have.

The most unimaginable thing is that you had the same score. I heard that both of you had the same score of 1.8 when you were in high school (editor's note: the way German score system is different from Japan's, 1 is the highest). You were such good students.
Bill:
Yeah! (laugsh) Tom and I didn't like to go to school. I think the most terrible period of time was our school days. I wanted to make music since I was a little boy, and I just did what I wanted, so I didn't have much time to study. I had a feeling that we were supposed to be somewhere else instead of school. School life was tough. We were born in a small town. There was no one who had the same hobbies and thoughts about life with us. At that time our dream was to go to some bigger cities to make music. The days we spent in that small town were not happy, 'cause we hated school. There were many annoyed teachers there. But our scores were good, so it was all right.

You said you have written songs for a good while, what kind of style is your next new song?
Bill:
I keep collecting all kinds of ideas. I think the first thing I have to decide is the date we go to Japan. And we are going to South America later on (editor's note: it is after Japan's tour). Then it comes to a conclusion for this year. We will come back to the studio and start it over. We will spend more time than last time. 'Cause we need to think about what we want to do and what kind of music we want to make. So it's the moment for collecting ideas. After we come back to the studio, we will write songs with our producers like a family, which will be very cool. We look forward to the new album with new songs. And we also expect the next year.

When will the new album be released?
Bill:
I don't know yet. I just have some ideas and have written several songs, but I cannot tell you when we will release the new album. I promise it will be amazing.

Bill Kaulitz (singer)

After Bill's parents divorced at his age of 7, Bill and Tom were raised by his mother. Gradually influenced by his mother-s new boyfriend who is a guitarist, Bill got interested in music (later on his mother married Gordon). When Bill was 10 years old, he founded a band with the help of his stepfather. He began to play the song that he wrote by himself in a club. During his teenage days, he was considered as a fancy dressing boy among his classmates in his hometown, because he wore the suits and clotheses that he made manually. In addition, he always argued with some one else. Soon after, Gustav and Georg joined in their band and they worked very hard under the name of Devilish. However, there were rarely good performances. Fortunately, Bill participated in a show program called Star Search. In the show, he sung the "It's raining man" of Geri Halliwell, and he lost in the quarter-final, which drew the attention of a famous producer. He grasped the opportunity to be a super star and finally the band signed a contract with Universal Music Company in 2005. Then after they made their debuts, Tokio Hotel created a big sensation not only in Germany but also all over the world. Because of too many trips and shows, Bill had to quit his school at the age of 15 and continued studying through tutors and internet. In 2007 he graduated in Koln (notes: school, between junior high school and senior high school). By the way, Bill's average score in 6 grades was 1.8, which was a very high score (opposite to Japanese score system, 1 is the highest).
Because of Bill's fancy dressing, he was chose as the best dresser in German GQ magazine. Besides this he also established his fashion pioneer place. Tokio Hotel attended the Italian fashion brand "DSQUARED2" FW fashion show, did a photo shoot with Karl Lagerfeld for VOGUE Germany 30th anniversary issue and dubbed an animated film named "Arthur und die Minimoys". Talking about Bill's girlfriend issue that his fans are interested in, now there is no certain answer, which seems like Bill is not that popular among girls. In the past 7 years, Bill didn't have a girlfriend and till now he has been looking for.

Hip Hop culture obsessed popular boy

Tom Kaulitz (guitarist)

Height: 188cm
Weight: 52kg
Color of hair: Black (The color of his real hair is dark brown)
Color of eyes: Brown

Tom was born 10 minutes before Bill. They are identical twin brothers. However, they look totally different if we judge from their appearances. Tom always wears a baseball cap, no makeup and wears a Cornrow hairstyle. Now he likes Hip Hop and Cornrow. Tom admitted this point as well that they look totally different on their outside look. But he believes that if they work together, they will become much stronger as one individual. They are like exactly two sides of one coin. About their views of love, they think differently. In Tom's own phrase, he is more popular than Bill among girls. His view of love is quite flexible and he believes that he can have a romantic love even in one night stand. Although they look differently at first glance, they do have something in common which is study. Tom quit his school at age of 15 as Bill did and graduated in Koln (notes: school, between junior high school and senior high school). Coincidently Tom’s score was exactly the same with Bill's, 1.8 in 6 grades.

Healing musical bassist with refreshing smile

Georg Listing (bassist)

Full name: Georg Moritz Hagen Listing
Birthday: 31st March 1987 Age: 23
Hometown: Magdeburg, Germany
Height: 178cm
Weight: 72kg
Color of hair: Brown
Color of eyes: Green
Favorite food: Fotopoulos, Hot Pop
Favorite drink: Red Bull, Cola
Family members: Parents divorced and no brothers or sisters.
Favorite bands: G Green Day, Oasis, Red Hot Chilli Peppers,Die Ärzte

Georg's parents were both doctors, so he grew up in a wealthy family. His parents could not play any instrument, but they all liked rock 'n' roll music, especially his father collected many classic rock 'n' roll music records of Eric Clapton, Beatles, The Rolling Stone and so on. His home was filled with music all the time. In Georg's childhood, he was always brought to a live concert, therefore he fell in love with music naturally. He had ever planned to found a band with his friends in junior high school, but this plan came to naught. Soon after he made acquaintance with Gustav in music school and then they were obsessed with music. Like Bill and Tom, Georg's parents divorced, but his mother had been telling him to follow his heart no matter what he wanted to do. He pursued everything including music freely. The first impression on Georg since his debut was a boy with refreshing straight hair, but he goes to beauty salon to straighten his hair. Actually his real hair is curl hair.

Early bird in the band

Gustav Schäfer (drummer)

Full name: Gustav Klaus Wolfgang Schäfer
Birthday: 8th September 1988 Age: 22
Hometown: Magdeburg, Germany
Height: 173cm
Weight: 68kg
Color of hair: Dark Brown
Color of eyes: Brown
Favorite food: Beef ribs boiled with potatoes, rabbits and beans, cheeseburger
Favorite drink: Red Bull, Cola
Family members: Parents, sister
Favorite bands: Metallic, Slipknot, Rod Stewart

Gustav's father and sister played guitar all the time, so he grew up in a family full of music. His father always played some videos for him when he was at home. Gustav knocked at the table as he beat a drum when he watched the video. Gustav's father found that Gustav was interested in drum and he sent Gustav to a music school. So Gustav began to beat drums at age of 5. In elementary school, Gustav became interested in other things, however, his father was pretty strict with him. Then his father and Gustav watched Genesis's video again. Gustav was touched by such a big amount of Genesis's fans and swore to himself that in the future he wants to be a big shot like Genesis. After all this, he kept practicing rain and shine. Father's words were hunting in his mind. Gustav kept practicing as his father taught him, and then he encountered Georg in music school. Soon after, they founded the band with Bill and Tom together under name "Tokio Hotel". However, in 2008, Gustav got into a big traffic accident. On 5th Nov. he was driving his BMW. He crossed over the lane and ran into a tram. Fortunately, he didn't suffer injures in this accident while both his BMW and the tram were damaged seriously. Misfortune continued occurring. In July 2009, Gustav was badly injured by a beer bottle which two unknown men held in their fights in a club in Magdeburg. Because of this, he got 36 stitches from his forehead.

Bill's identical twins brother - Tom Exclusive Interview

"We talk about everything together. During one day we discuss a wide range of topics. When we are lying on the bed, we even talk about what to choose between ice coffee and hot coffee."

Tom Kaulitz/Tokio Hotel Interviewer: YUKO KATO

Before Tokio Hotel comes to Japan, we made a phone call to their studio in Hamburger. They are doing the rehearsal for their South America trip.
Tom picked up the phone and his voice was so fresh and vigorous as he burst out of the phone.
According to their historical popularity in Europe, we thought he would be not as gentle as a gentleman. However, to a big surprise he gave us a pretty good impression.

Based on the information on the internet, you have been looking for some place to move in recently. Is it because of recording? Or is it temporary?
Tom:
Yeah, we are going to move to LA. But we have a new house in Hamburg as well.

Why? Have you moved to LA already?
Tom:
We have been living in Hamburg before, but we decided to move to LA because we are going to cooperate with the producer who lives in LA. Our decision is based on our work, so we decided to move to LA.

According to the rumors, after you finish recording this new song, four of you want to go back to Germany instead of staying in LA, don't you?
Tom:
In fact, Georg and Gustav still live in Magdeburg Germany. Bill and I live in LA. But right now we are in Germany, because we are absorbed in the rehearsal for South America trip.

Is it okay? You guys are separated from each other. What is the collective wisdom for a group?
Tom:
Actually, it is just a little bit troublesome. But we have founded this band for almost 10 years, so there will not be some special problems for us. We can meet in the rehearsal room and do everything for the rehearsal. Just like the very beginning, we practiced and wrote songs together in Germany, then Georg and Gustav come over and we do the rehearsal together.

I heard of some news that Bill brought all his 4 dogs to LA. Is it real?
Tom:
Yes, all 4 dogs are in LA.

How is your life in LA? Do you live with Bill?
Tom:
Absolutely, we live together.

Where do you live in LA?
Tom:
West Hollywood, it is nice place.

Do you have many friends in LA?
Tom:
We don't have many friends in LA, even in Germany we don't have too many friends. (laugh)

Is it because you are super stars?
Tom:
Ehm, it is one of the reasons, I think. After all we don't live like normal people. But since we were in high school, we do have two or three close friends. If they come to LA, then it is wonderful. We have friends in LA, but because of the work we always come and go from the studio and out home. Our producer lives in LA, so it is amazing, isn't it?

When you were in Germany, you must have been shadowed by thefts or followers. Maybe your life in LA could be safer and more peaceful.
Tom:
Yeah, I hope so. It's a reason that we move to LA.

Your South America trip is the first step entering American market. It is really a good beginning.
Tom:
Maybe, I guess out next album will release soon. In 2010, we plan to go to Japan and have some promotional show case. We are looking forward to. We will finish new album after our South America trip, so I think it will take a little bit time. Therefore, it will also take a while to enter American market.

We know everyone has their own hobbies, by the way, who does the housework at home? Bill? Or does someone help you with that?
Tom:
There are some people who help us do the housework, coz the house is too big, it's necessary to hire some to do that. But we sometimes do some housework together as well.

Tokio Hotel is absolutely super star in Europe. Do you want to take the advantages of your star effects to do some charity work? Or some work like charity?
Tom:
Of course, we have done many different kinds of charity work. It has been almost 3 years since Bill and I became vegetarian. In this aspect, even though there is not so many this kind of charity work, we will find some work to do as well.

You are a vegetarian, but I am a meat lover. (laugh)
Tom:
Oh, you are a vegetarian, so are Georg and Gustav.

I like eating meat. I only ate meat in 7 days when I was in Germany. It seems like that German like eating meat.
Tom:
Although I am a vegetarian and I don't eat meat, but I have to eat healthy food otherwise I have no strength at all. In the past, I like eating fast food such as cheeseburgers and hotdogs.

Tom, would you mind telling me your personality?
Tom:
It is a tough question. You'd better ask Bill. In my mind, I am a brilliant lovely beautiful guitarist. And I am also very kind. Bill and I are both Virgo, so I am a perfectionist. Sometimes, on this aspect I am like sort of freak, so I may cause troubles.

When Bill and you are together, what do you talk about?
Tom:
You mean when we are together? We decide everything together, no matter what. When we are lying on the bed, we still discuss what to choose between ice coffee and hot coffee, or which color is better for the floor of the rehearsal room, or which song do we play or how to play in the show. We share everything with each other.

You have a studio at home in Hamburg, will you have one in LA?
Tom:
Because we just moved, some furniture will be delivered in 2 or 3 weeks. The house in Hamburg is empty. Coz the house in LA is so big that I think…

Do you plan to build a studio room in which you can make an album by yourself?
Tom:
Yes, I believe we are going to build one though it takes a lot of money.

Then you can make your own music that you like anytime.
Tom:
Sure, we have been doing so when we were in Hamburg. We can write songs as we record, and then we can do the recording officially in producer's studio. So we have to make a decision. Shall we spend lots of money to build our own studio in our house or find some other studio to help us with recording?

Is the producer David Jost?
Tom:
David Jost and Dave Roth.

Are you going to cooperate with these two people for the next album?
Tom:
I think so. Except them, we will invite some other producers and song-writers to join us. Coz we want to do something special and fresh, but I don't know too much about the next album. We don't make plans. As long as we haven’t started writing, we don’t know what is going to happen next.

Did you sing a song in Japanese 3 or 4 years ago, right?
Tom:
Yeah, it's "Durch den Monsun".

Will you sing in Japanese again?
Tom:
I don't know yet. Bill is responsible for this. But as for Bill, it's really difficult for him to sing in Japanese. And except English and German, we are too lazy to learn other foreign languages. So we need help when we do the recording. Although we had a good time when we recorded the "Durch den Monsun" Japanese version, it is really hard. Oh, you heard that one, didn't you? Can you understand what we sung?

In fact, I just read some relating information, I haven't listened. But I promise you if you sing in Japanese when you come to Japan this time, I will tell you how well you sing.
Tom:
Ok, then.

Next question is a basic one. Why do you name your band "Tokio Hotel"?
Tom:
The original name is "Devilish".

Yeah, I know that, it's a cool name.
Tom:
Sure, it is a pretty cool name. we want a cooler one. So we decided to be under name "Tokio" after discussion. Tokyo sounds more beautiful than Berlin. However we have never been there before. To some extent, the name of our band symbolizes the final goal for us. And our next destination is Tokyo. We are going to play live.

What do you know about Tokyo or Japan?
Tom:
I have no idea. Some people told me that Japan is a colorful world, so we really want to experience by ourselves. Actually there is no specific image of Tokyo in my mind. I think it will be a big surprise.

Tom, do you have something that you want to do in Japan? Do you have something to say to your fans?
Tom:
Sure. I really appreciate that you are so surportive all the time. We are looking forward to going to Japan and meet all you guys on the live concert and show case. This is our first time to go to Japan, so we are so excited. We are longing for seeing the streets, tasting Japanese food and so on. We can not wait any more.
