Question 1: The first thing that I wanted to know is if you knew something of Peru before coming to here?
Bill: Erm, not really that much. Well, we’ve, erm... Actually we always let ourselves be surprised a bit and erm, actually [we] came here without high expectations and are totally happy about the reaction so far. We’ve already had very amazing fans that were somehow singing for us... *laughing* ... and screaming outside the hotel all night long. And we’re totally looking forward to the concert. [cut off]

Question 2: Speaking about the fans...the fans die for you! There have been girls who are waiting for you from Saturday where the concert will take place. What would you say to these girls?
Bill: [I] would erm… Well, first of all I’d wish for everyone to somehow have a nice concert, I think. And apart from that we can only repeatedly say thanks for even being given the opportunity to come here as a band and to play concerts here and [we] are incredibly grateful for the fans supporting us like this and somehow, erm, [that they] are so into it and especially for, for living this entire life with us, right? That they really wait for us for days prior to the concerts, that they somehow stand outside the hotel and it’s definitely making us feel good even though we’re actually so far away from home. And erm, yes, we’re looking forward to, we’re looking forward to playing for them then and I’m just wishing a good time to everyone.
Tom: And already in advance I can only apologise for Georg playing the bass like sh*t. *Georg laughing* Well... I just want to say that first...
Bill: Beforehand...

Question 3: You two are twins. How of difficult is it to work together the whole day?
Bill: Actually, erm, not at all. I think, for us it would be weirder if we weren’t together because we, erm, have spent all our lives together of course. Erm, and I think between identical twins there is even more of a special connection that otherwise is hard to comprehend and grasp for an outsider. It really is something like, erm, yes, something very weird on some kind of a different level and erm... Therefore, it has always been very normal for us. Together we have... always done everything together. We are... [cut]
Bill: The same dogs.
Tom: *laughing* The same dogs. Actually we share, like, everything. So therefore working together is not an issue for us. That’s not the way we see it.

Question 4: Bill, you were a lot of time fighting against the prejudices that existed for your image, your look... how was this process? This situation to fight against the prejudices?
Bill: I have to say, actually I’ve always been quite self-confident. *laughing*
Georg: Too self-confident. *Tom laughing at Georg’s comment*
Bill: Therefore, I’ve always just been doing it. After all I also went to school like this and it was always obvious to me that of course people would feel provoked by it, erm, and that also was always a feeling that I liked somehow and therefore... Actually I grew up like that, that there have always been people that hated it and that there were other people that somehow liked it and somehow thought it was good.
Tom: The bigger… Of course the bigger part always thought it was sh*t and then there were a few people that liked it. And up until today it’s those few people he lives off.
Bill: Exactly. *smiling*

Question 5: I die to know, a few time ago the mass media, well...some months ago, they said that you had had an overdose for taking viagra. I wanted to know if it was true or not!
Tom [cut]: An overdose, erm, erm, one doesn’t know but erm, erm… It definitely lasted for a long time.
*Bill laughing*
Tom: And I made good use of the time.

Question 6: The fans die for you, are mad for you...the peruvian fans have some possibility of having something with you or what requirements would they have to have to be able to be with someone of the boys of Tokio Hotel?
Bill: *laughing* Erm sure, I mean, one, one, erm… Actually one doesn’t associate it with continents or countries. Erm, first of all basically everything is possible. Well erm, sure, if [...] us...
Tom:  *interrupting* Except for Georg, except for Georg.
Bill: Except for Georg. Georg is staken, yes.

The question is [about] what you feel like when you’ve got to play so far away from your [home] country. Well, like... so far away from Germany.
Bill: Erm, I would say that it’s always a bit mixed. Meaning, for most parts we are, we are of course proud and are happy that we’re travelling so far away and that the people still know our music and erm, come to our concerts. And especially for a German band that’s of course some kind of a dream that came true [when] one is able to play concerts on different continents. And at the same time we’re a bit homesick. Meaning, when we’re flying for such a long time now and also are away for such a long time, then one also misses their home a bit. Erm, but of course for the most part it’s actually happiness about us somehow having the opportunity to perform.
Do you think that you may also be able to sing in another language other than English or German or that it might happen some day? Well, that...
Tom: Well, we’ve once [recorded] a song in, erm, Japanese… Well, Bill recorded the vocals in Japanese for a song, erm, and he had a bit of help with it and I think, it didn’t turn out too well for him. *Tom, the Japanese expert making Bill smile* Meaning, I’d just be interested [to know] whether they actually really understand what Bill is singing on it. Erm, but, erm, apart from that we’re pretty much occupied with English and German, I think. Well, one has got to say that especially the production of an album takes a really long time with us, erm, when we’re recording the songs in German and English. We’ve really taken ages for our last album doing it that way. Erm, so therefore I think two languages are quite enough for us.

Do you somehow feel responsible, that you’ve got some influence on your generation? Meaning, that you’ve got influence on your generation?
Bill: Erm well, actually I’ve got to say that one doesn’t think about it much because most of the time... Well, in the end we’re just making music, right? And erm, after all that’s also the thing we know how to do. That means we, we’re not thinking about influencing people somehow but we just do what we enjoy doing and erm, erm... Yes, also what we think is right somehow. Meaning, we never really think about, erm, that somebody is taking a leaf out of our book or something like that. One really just does something the way they can do it best and erm, doesn’t really think about it a lot and erm... After all we also started out very early, right? Our first single was released when we were 15 and erm, therefore we’ve always been doing it the way we somehow thought was best and what we just thought was right.

Have you known anything about Peru and about Latin America before you showed up here? *giggling*
Tom: *slightly laughing* Well, not much really. Meaning, actually we let ourselves... we always let ourselves be surprised a bit. So far we’ve always only been to Mexico. That means this is really the first time, erm, that we’re playing concerts here and erm, also see our fans and therefore... We’ve been planning this for quite a long time already and were extremely looking forward to it. Actually we’ve wanted to come much sooner, erm, but it only just worked out now and, and erm... Actually we wanted to let ourselves be surprised. Meaning, we didn’t really know a lot to be honest. However, so far we’ve got a very, very good impression. Meaning, we’ve had a really good concert in Brazil and erm, are hoping that we can repeat this today and have a good concert here. Yes! And we’re definitely pleasantly surprised.

Can you name five bands that somehow influenced you? Meaning, that somehow influenced your music.
Bill: Well, we… I can’t really, erm… *deep breath* … speak for all of us because we’re all pretty different when it comes to that. Meaning, all of us have actually got a very different taste in music.
Tom: Actually there aren’t even five bands that have influenced us.
Bill: Exactly. There aren’t actually five bands that have influenced us. We’ve also never covered songs. Meaning, we’ve always been making our own music and erm, therefore it’s very difficult. Well, now if I’m just talking for myself [and] what music I personally like to listen to, erm, then, erm, it’s definitely, like, Stereophonics and Aerosmith. But also, like, things from the Eighties. I like Depeche Mode very much and erm, a few things by David Bowie. Well, it’s very, very diverse. However, now that wasn’t... Those are not our, erm, people that we based ourselves on or something like that.

He’s asking about tonight’s programme. What will you... What will you be singing and playing tonight?
Tom: Erm well, pretty much exactly what we’ve been doing on our European tour. Meaning, we’ve tried to bring along as much of our production as possible. The set list will be the same. So that means, of course we’ve got many, many songs from our current album, Humanoid, with us and erm, will also be playing a few old songs and erm, as I’ve said before, [we] have also tried to bring along a little of the production. Erm, and I think it’ll be very good. Well, it’ll be a good show. We’ve already had the sound check earlier and everything looks very, very good.

That's why we took some photos today and put ourselves in chains. In the first moment people think, that it is funny and that the animals have fun, but the reality is of course different. Of course the animals were not kept species-appropriate, and for running so nicly in the round, training is necessary and here and there a few slaps.

Tom: There are always parents, who go to the circus, with their very little children. The little children know nothing about the source, and that's why parents have to develop the awareness, that this is not okay.

Bill: Otherwise there is a wonderful circus with artists, there, everyone can go. We did it also.

Tom: Now the second motive, now we are in the cage...

Questioner: Can you empathize with a caged animal?

Tom: No, I don't think so. It's a thousand times worse. We are only here for ten minutes to take a picture, but that's already enough.

Bill: We see a lot with animals in showbusiness in general, whether TV-Shows, performances, video-shoots, that was something, that we strictly denied.

An animal doesn't get it, it's just caged and I can't stand it. If I think about it, I am at once in tears.
The first dog that we got from the animal shelter was seriously injured. He has burn-scars all over his ears, because the former owner stubbed out their cigarettes on it. He has bad teeth, because as puppy they gave him beer to drink. These are expierences, which characterized us.

Bill & Tom from Tokio Hotel stand up for animals

The twins Bill and Tom Kaulitz of Germany's internationally most successful rock band Tokio Hotel protest with an elaborate photo opportunity for the use of animals in the entertainment industry: "The Slaves Of The Entertainment Industry: Wild Animals Out Of The Circus!" is the slogan with which the musicians, for the first time now participate in a PETA campaign.

Chained and blood-smeared, Bill and Tom are seen in dark surroundings. The campaign is published internationally: in addition to Europe, it is also seen in the U.S. and Asia.
"You only have time to imagine that animals are kept all their lives like that! Circus performances with animals should be prohibited, there are enough interesting alternatives!" says Bill. Specifically, the musicians will appeal to parents who are still bringing their children to the circus with this design. "Especially parents must develop a consciousness here." says Tom.

The two vegetarians also wonder about the Federal Government: On October 17th 2003, the Federal Council unanimously sent a clear signal to the federal government and in a resolution. voted to ban wild animals in the circus (especially elephants, monkeys and bears). The federal government still does not move and makes animal abuse to continue!

Exclusive Interview with Tokio Hotel

The German band will give their first concert in Perú Thursday the 25th at the Jockey Club. Bill and Tom Kaulitz promised a great show

Awards precede them. They are flaming winners of the MTV European Awards (category Best World Stage Performance), plus collectors of gold and platinum records; the German group Tokio Hotel is closer to giving their first concert in our country as part of their Welcome to Humanoid City tour.

"You will see more or less the same show that we have given in the European tour. The thing is we will not be able to offer exactly the same production. But there's no doubt that it will be spectacular. We are taking all our outfits; and, we will be playing songs from our new album", details Bill Kaulitz via telephone about their upcoming presentation.

The show they will give on the 25th of this month at the Jockey Club will present a futuristic style inspired by their last album: "Humanoid" (2009), that gathers diverse elements from science fiction. Of course, within the 'set list', they will perform songs from their whole career such as "Monsoon", "Ready Set Go", "Humanoid", and "Automatic".

Since they formed the group, a decade ago, the twins Bill (vocals) and Tom (guitar) Kaulitz together with Georg Listing (bass and keyboard) and Gustav Schäfer (drums) began playing in small clubs before making themselves known. That's why they learned to take the splendor that comes with fame patiently.

"We understand what it feels like when people don't know you, even though now we've also seen the other side of things. To remain focused, we remember what it felt like in the beginning when no one knew us", explains the singer.

If well they don't know much about our country, Bill and Tom demonstrated being excited to play in Lima for the first time and letting themselves be surprised by Perú. But not necessarily by the cuisine nor the scenery, but by something closer to them: the fans.

"I think the most wonderful thing one can see is when we meet for the first time with them. Those reactions, above all when one is so far away from home, they form a magical moment", shares Tom. His twin does not fall behind and completes the idea with a thank you to all their fans. "The energy they give off is incredible. That's why we love them so much. We love our fans. They don't live music, they live Tokio Hotel", he adds.

For the moment, the German band is focused on the Latin American tour that will take them thereafter to Chile and Mexico. If they confirmed that they have a project in mind, they don't want to say too much about it. What they did assure is that they will continue to record in English and their following destination is Tokyo, the city with which they always dreamed of.

They are members of one of the most successful German bands. Bill and Tom Kaulitz from Tokio Hotel. The twins perform with their band mates Georg and Gustav worldwide. At that they experience a lot – also in the matter of traffic and logistics.

planet-beruf: For your performances you're on tour a lot. What do you take with you?

Tom: Mainly we have clothes and instruments. But it depends, how long we're away from home. On the latest tour we were on the road three months straight and everyone of us had about ten suitcases. So, on long travels we take along up to 40 suitcases. Bill always has the most suitcases!

planet-beruf: When you're on tour, you're almost all the time together. How does living together work in such little space?

Bill: Well, on the latest tour it worked surprisingly well. I had expected that we annoy each other way more. But it only came to that at the last show in Paris. I think it helped that we had two tour busses and could drive separately!

planet-beruf: Travelling on the tour bus is certainly fun! Could you imagine to drive such a bus on your own, as a professional driver maybe?

Tom: I think everyone is destined for a different job. We've always wanted to only make music, others love to drive long distances, like our bus drivers. They do their job definitely very well!

planet-beruf: How are your instruments transported?

Tom: Everything gets stowed in purpose-built cases. Depending on the distance, they whether are transported with a plane or on a truck. If we go to America or Asia, then they sometimes get transported in containers on a ship as well.

planet-beruf: For your "Humanoid Tour 2010" you had an impressing show. How does the equipment get transported to the cities you play a concert in?

Tom: The tour is extremely complex. A forwarding agency which is only in charge for tours, planned and implemented it. The parts of the stage are divided on 12 trucks and on the road in whole Europe. Everything is planned to the minute and when the trucks are stuck in a traffic jam once, time is getting short. The stage gets build up every morning at 7 in two different parts of the venue and then they out it together. Directly after the end of the show they take down the stage and everything starts again…

Bill: Depending to the requirements in the venue, the technicians take about eight to ten hours to build up the show. A stiff piece of work and a real master stroke!

Aus Europa gab es bei der MTV-Preisverleihung 2010 nur einen Gewinner. Und der hieß Tokio Hotel.

In der Kategorie „Best World Stage Performance“ (bester Auftritt in der Show, MTV World Stage“) setzten sich die vier Magdeburger – und darauf kann man schon mal stolz sein – gegen US-Stars wie Pop-Mieze Katy Perry und die Rocker von Green Day durch.
Die Pop-Ehre ihres Kontinents konnten sie damit gerade noch retten!

ABER, EUROPA: WO SIND DEINE SUPERSTARS?

Abgesehen von den Tokio-Hotel-Jungs dominierten ausschließlich amerikanische Künstler die Preisverleihung. Dabei waren einige europäische Acts nominiert!

TOKIO HOTEL TAKE PART IN "MUSICAL MENTE" ! ♥

El grupo musical Tokio Hotel que viene por primera vez al país, no sólo realizará el concierto, sino que participarán del proyecto llamado “MusicalMente”.

A partir del proyecto, donarán una sala de música más una biblioteca a una es­cuela de bajos recursos de Santiago y serán padrinos. Todo esto en el backstage del concierto el domingo 28 de noviembre en Movistar Arena.

Por otra parte, Bill Kaulitz, cantante y frontman del gru­po, dice que “Vamos con lo que consideramos la producción de nuestros sueños, la más grande y de mayor calidad que hemos tenido. Se van a sorprender nuestros fans de Chile”.

TRANSLATION:

The musical group Tokio Hotel that comes for the first time to the country, not only will give a concert, but they will take part in a project called "Musical Mente."
For the project, they will donate a music room and a library to a school of low resources in Santiago. All this in the backstage of the concert on Sunday, the 28th of November in Movistar Arena.

On the other hand, Bill Kaulitz, singer and frontman of the group, says that “We go with what we consider the production of our dreams, the biggest and of best quality that we have ever had. Our fans of Chile will get a surprise.”

Bill and Tom Kaulitz

We'll let ourselves be surprised in Chile

No doubt that Tokio Hotel is one of the most awaited for visits of the year, and there are thousands of fans that can't take the excitement anymore. Knowing this, we took the phone and spoke to the hottest twins in music. Here it is, our exclusive interview with Bill and Tom Kaulitz.

The constant traveling has been the tonic (strength) for the guys of Tokio Hotel for a few years now. And it is precisely the fact of meeting so many people and the diverse places, something that never ceases to excite Bill, Tom, Georg, and Gustav, that has taken their music this year from their native Germany, stopping in Russia, and their successful stop in Asia, where the echoes of their most recent album, Humanoid City, still resonates. Now, and for the joy of thousands of fans, the German band arrives for the first time in Santiago, a fact that has Bill and Tom tremendously excited, who while on their tour break (since they are adjusting the details of their arrival to South America) from Hamburg took the time to speak with us, giving us a heads up on how their first performance in Santiago will be, what they expect from their Chilean fans, and how they believe this, their first visit to South America will be. Girls... we present, the Kaulitz twins.

Tú: How do you feel at just a few days from presenting your show and the band for the first time in South America?
Tom: The truth is we are so happy, because it is the first time that we go there, and if we didn't do so before, is because it is really difficult to manage a show of this kind and travel so far with the tour that we were doing. But the truth is that we feel really happy of meeting our fans "from down there" (laughs) very soon.

Tú: The show you will present in Santiago will be similar to what the fans have seen in Europe?
Bill: Since we will be presenting the new album, the performance will be the same that has been seen on the European Humanoid City Tour. The thing is we can't take absolutely everything from the production with us to Chile, but we will take our outfits, and all that, so in that sense it will be the same. You can be sure we are going with all we have and more, because we are anxious to go and play in Chile.

Tú: What are your thoughts on how in far away countries such as Chile, fans adore and prefer German versions of your songs over English?
Tom: Wow! (laughter)... I am very surprised, because I really had no idea! But, are you serious? Wow! (pause and chatter among the Kaulitz). And good thing you tell me! because we are just now preparing the list of songs that we are going to perform; and it is awesome to know that the fans love our mother language, with which we began to make ourselves known. And you know what, I am really pleased that it is this way, because besides German and English we don't speak anything else, and it is admirable that our fans in Chile feel interested in listening to our songs in German and that they take the time to translate them. I am excited!

Tú: I can tell you more Tom, in Chile the fans are dedicated, because they adore the German versions and they and demand them on the albums...
Tom: They are really incredible, I cannot believe it! Never in my life would I have imagined it, it's incredible...it's perfect!

Tú: And since we are on the subject of our country, do you know anything about Chile?
Bill: The truth is we are going to let ourselves be surprised, because we don't know much about the country, nor do we know much about the music, but we are always in contact with our fan clubs and we know the tremendous support that they give us from Chile. We have read it all, because they tell us a lot and we have also seen the videos that our fans in Chile upload on the Internet (and they are truly creative). But anyway, aside from that, we are going to let them surprise us; I think that is the most beautiful thing about traveling, because you arrive to a city that you don't know, and you let yourself be surprised by all those new impressions.

Tú: We know the "unconditional love" that you awaken in your fans. Are you prepared for the harassment (always with love, it's clear) from so many girls that awaits you here?
Tom: The truth is that in more than one occasion we have had one bad experience with some fan, because sometimes someone will lose control and we don't know what to do; even if it happens a thousand times, we still gets nervous. But we are more than wishful to be there soon, with our fans, that are always with the best disposition and with all their love supporting us from the first row in our concerts.

Tú: With all the success, tours, trips, performances, etc... Have you ever stopped to think if, at some time you wished to take your voice and songs to countries as far as ours?
Bill: It is something incredible. So tremendous! I have yet to finish assimilating and comprehending it all, and it makes me glad that it is like this. It is something that none of us ever imagined, since we never thought that we would have so much success outside of our own country, and especially in other continents. We still cannot believe that we travel so much, that we meet so many people, and that we can sing to fans in so many places. It is something that each time I see it and I experience it, it moves me. Truthfully, I cannot help it because it is a gift and I am very thankful for having received it.

Tú: As good musicians, I would love to check out your personal iPod, so that you recommend some music that you like to the readers of Tú.
Bill: Within the band, our music taste is very diverse, since we all like different things. But what we all like and is absolutely recommended is Aerosmith. To me, personally, what I like the most is music from the 80's. I love Depeche Mode, I love the Stereophonics... I think that bands of that style are the best and without a doubt I recommend them to our fans.

Tú: Let me tell you, you have great taste...
Bill: How sweet, thank you so much.
Tom: Hahaha...he's all red! Hahaha

Tú: Finally, I would like to leave the line open, for you to leave a message to the fans, who are eagerly waiting for you in Chile.
Tom: What we want to say a heartfelt thank you to all and to the fans for their support, and that we are very happy to take our music there. And it has been so long since we wanted to do it, and finally we have done it! So we are happy to finally be able to be over there, and we give you infinite thanks for all the support that you have always given us, thank you for all the good things that we have received from them, and for the stupendous show that I know we will have in Santiago. Greetings to all the fans in Chile and we'll see you soon.

At the airport in Hamburg the twins got on their private jet with their four dogs and lots of luggage. Their destination: Los Angeles.
There the two 21-year olds want to work on new songs in the following months. The boys also found a place to stay – a cool Villa in West Hollywood.
And where's the rest of the band – Gustav (22) and Georg (23)? They'll stay in Germany... So the super-twins will have to return soon.
